checkout richard holdner on youtube. You could get some cheap junkyard 5.3/4.8 heads and throw them on the 6 liter and a decent cam and make good power. boring the engine and milling heads does not sound like what a person with a small budget would do.

Yeah, glad I asked. 20 bills...no. Cam and springs will run 30-40% of your budget. Rebuild kit from a vendor here will run $700ish. Machine work...depends on what needs done when you get in there. Fluids can run a couple hundred alone. Most important part of the entire build will be the tune, which will run another several bills. Don’t skimp on tune, or it’s all in vain.
You can try and put it all together with cheap used stuff, and it will end up costing you double your budget in the end. There’s really no cheap way to get into a rebuild.
Not trying to rain on your parade, just being real.

i have already got my 317 heads milled. My question is since i am changing rods and pistons can i bore up to a 6.2 l or a oversized bore and use my 317 milled heads and a good cam and flat top pistons to get 400ish horsepower with out buying new heads. I have to take my block to the machine shop for cam barons and hot tank any way. Just trying to have a good strong lasting running engine with out going super crazy on price i need a little advice
