Default Ls1 cam suggestions/tips

I have an auto 2001 trans am with 3.23 gears, right now all that’s done is slp lid, ported stock throttle body, ls6 intake, 1 3/4 long tubes with ORY and full 3 inch exhaust. And it’s tuned just for those mods. I’m looking at cam kits now but don’t really know anything about what to look for. I will need to daily drive the car about 20 miles everyday and only roll race occasionally when it comes up. Not looking for a crazy cam just something small but sounds nice. Also will I need a stall converter or can my stock converter hold up a small cam? And if anyone has links to a cam kits/packages for everything I will need please post them thanks

I've been looking really hard at the Titan 4 and BTR stage 2 for my daily driver setup. Whether you need a stall with a small cam is up for debate, and you will get answers that lean both ways. I think most will say you should get a stall to go with your cam to best maximize your new found power. I am undecided for mine as to whether I'm going to go with a 3200 or 3600 converter. Many on here will recommend a gear change too. With an auto 3.73 is common. The car is off to a good start with all the major bolt ons. A cam will be good for it. Good luck with the build.

yea I have been looking at btr stage 2 or 3, or the Texas speed 228r and I think I am going to just throw on a 3200 just to make drivability better thanks for the input

To be honest I would do the converter first. Just make sure to get a high end one. I have the yank SS 3600 and am very happy. Huge difference in performance with very little downside. I would not go with a lower stall speed personally. I was worried it would be too high but now kind of wish I had gone to the 4000.

Changing to this converter and adding headers cut my 1/4 et by a full second and gained 6 mph trap speed.

If you did only one.. The converter will make you faster than the cam, so do it first.

Then do the cam later since you'll already have the converter.

Doing a small cam is a huge waste of money and time, because you will end up wishing you had gone bigger. That's if you do a cam small enough to work with a stock stall.

Full agree. Been there done that. I did a SS3800. I did a Yank PYE 3400 first and since that converter was make for 800whp+ it would only stall to 2500. It suckkkkked. Then I was like okay I'll go big and went to a Yank SS3800. This was a daily driver that every other week was driven 1000 miles a week, the in between weeks it went 300-500 miles a week. I had zero regrets with the SS3800 and it made the car A LOT faster. I had no idea a stall could help that much.

And do not do a cheap brand stall.
I'd do circle D or Yank.

Plan on buying drag radials after the stall, you're gonna need em.
