Default Cam Lube for Install?

I'm nearly finished with my cam install and my friends are telling me that I'm going to mesh something up by not putting cam lube on the cam? First off, comp didn't give me any, and secondly, LS1howto.com says to just coat the cam with normal oil, so I did. The techs at my work said to run 15w50 for the first day, but is that necessary? Will normal Mobil1 5w30 work okay? Thanks.

Any motor oil will work fine.

Cool, that's what I thought, but they're all like it's metal to metal until the pump starts up and ....? Okay, thanks.

generously coat it in motor oil (preferably the same kind as you already use) and you'll be a-ok

You dont need "cam lube" on a roller cam, especially with springs as light as the ones we use.

Exactly, if it were a flat tappet camshaft then you would need some moly lube and would have to break in the cam at 2000 rpm for 20 minutes.
All you need to do is coat it with oil n Get R Done. Just make sure to heat cycle the springs.
