Default Lifter Tray worries, looking for advice.

Hello, I have an lq4, with a small cam, new ls7 lifters, springs, ....ect. The problem it's all bolted together and waiting to fire on the engine stand. Now, I didn't think of changing out the lifter trays, and the more I read, I'm about to tear it down to put new trays in, or I'm worrying to much?

Thanks.

It's not a requirement. Usually its done because its cheap insurance.

Did the old trays still hold the lifters without them being loose and falling out?
If so I wouldnt worry with it.

I thought so, but it's been awhile since I put it all back together. I'm pretty sure that motor had some miles on it.

Thanks.

I got new trays, then returned them, because the material seemed a little thinner or less rigid (or maybe cheaper) than my original 20 year old LS1 trays, which I re-used. Anyway I think the material is some kind of resin, not just "plastic", it's pretty tough.

They do last a while, I ordered some CHEAP china ones off ebay and they were looser than the ones in my 300K miles Lq4. Needless to say they went in the trash and I ordered new GM ones, (witch are not even that exspensive) and they were MUCH tighter than my 300K miles one lol...

The Chinese trays were were probably bad copies of lifter trays from a 500,000 mile LS/Gen 3/4 engine.

You should be fine. I went with a stage 1 cam in my '01 Camaro and I reused the stock lifter trays with over 200k miles.

Mine were worn out with 65k on them. Nice and sloppy. In the trash they went and ordered new gm ones.

GM trays only. It would be better to tear it back down now on the engine stand v/s in the car or a lifter spinning in a tray and trashing the cam.. Spend a $100 on new bolts and head gaskets for piece of mind and chalk it up to learning.
