Go ahead while it's still on a stand and take the headers off and the coolant crossovers and put real gaskets on. Pretty engine though.

Real Gaskets? I put new metal gaskets from gm and Dorman coolant crossover gaskets. Do you mean take those off?

I can clearly see where I put RTV lol
Having worked with a twin turbo car I had and
knowing a few things or 2 about the 18 wheelers I drive. I choose to do it that way.

Others here have built multiple turbo LS motors and never required RTV on a coolant crossover or exhaust manifold. Your 18 wheeler info need not apply.

Well I did. Everyone has different experiences in their trajectory of life; thanks for the compliment on the engine.

That is not too much hi-temp RTV on the header gaskets. I do mine the same and it lasts with no leaks for years. The RTV fills in any imperfections in the header flange and gaskets and makes it more difficult for hot exhaust gas to eventually seep through, which can then end up in a permanent leak.

The guy posts his engine and some y'all pick at a tiny bit of RTV oozing out the headers? Really? WTF is this the Oprah or Dr Phil show , or a car forum?

Seems like can't post these days without the smug internet billy badass know it alls sharing their patronising 2 cents. And if you're offended by that i don't care.

I miss the old ls1tech days

I miss the old ls1tech days too, when people could give their opinions without some crying that they were being wronged 🙄 Did you happen to notice it on the coolant crossover as well? Even if you want to make some argument about how it's necessary on the exhaust manifold, which it's not, what's the explanation on the coolant ports given that there's a specific gasket for those?

I mentioned the header gaskets only. And i do think it is necessary. I also think it's ridiculous to even bring it up. It's an engine not an art piece. And idc where a guy decides to put RTV on his engine (as long as it doesn't end up blocking the oil pump pick up). The excess on the headers is nothing, it's not like he piled on a whole tube each side. Same for the coolant cross over. I also use RTV black on some of the factory LS rubber/steel gaskets even when new, because the end up losing tention after time and seeping. With RTV, they never seep.

Like i said when people are picking at a little RTV on an engine that isn't even a half shocking job like i've seen some others really pile it on, may as well be Oprah or Dr Phil not a car forum.

/end rant.

LOL. Provide yours, i'm good thanks. It was you that's offended by some RTV that even most every professional engine builder known to man, uses on every engine, on a daily basis.

I wonder if the original poster is amused by all this talk of RTV?
I want him to send me what he didn't use!

RTV is excellent, especially when it's used in the right places.

In my experience, the twin turbo I had the exhaust gaskets were not enough like the other user said the imperfections ripped them right out until it destroys it, blood boils and WOT is activated a lot. Also when doing a axle hub gasket replacement on the 18 wheeler, if you do the gasket alone you risk it not being enough and doing the job all over again and add RTV; along with other jobs. I lost the Coolant crossover bolts and I got some from the hardware store so I put it on for safety.

Other than that, I was raised I didn’t just grow up. What I mean by that is I treat everyone the way I want to be treated and if I don’t have anything good to say I’d rather say nothing at all.

Can’t wait to get it started!

Im putting a 255lph fuel pump, right now it has a current tune with stock pump; anyone know if I should break it in that way??
