Default LS1 Main Bearings

I recently rolled new main and rod bearings into my LS1 iroc-z while engine was in car, I was looking at the #5 main cap and it looks like it cannot clear the rear cover i was wondering if this is actually the case or can it be removed. Doubt this deserves its own thread but I could not find any info leading me to a answer. Any help appreciated

Hello I don't think very many people know the answer to Your question because the better way to do all the things that are necessary to do engine mains and connecting rod bearings correctly so that they have a chance of lasting very long given the disassembly, cleaning, measuring, machining and remeasuring ,,,,,,,,,,,,,etc etc it is impossible to do all those things with engine in car. Can it be done successfully ? Yes it can . Are there many possibilities for something to go wrong enough so that it is'nt worth the risk ? Absolutely yes it's not worth the risk . Yes it's alot of work to rebuild an engine successfully(it lasts at least 100,000 miles depending how You drive) ! I believe it would be difficult to remove #5 main bearing cap with the rear cover still in place on engine but it can most likely be done. Good luck

You cannot remove the No.5 main cap due to the lip on the rear cover where the oil pan bolts connect.
