Default Engine issues

I have an ls1 in my 93 hiluxand it's a manual, so a few weeks ago my car started losing a little bit of power going up hills mainly in 4th and especially in 5th gear, kind of surging, but would drive fine around town no issues. Now yesterday the voltage decided to shoot up to 17v while I was driving along, it sits on about 13v at idle and when u rev it obviously the voltage goes up to 16-17v depending on how much the pedal is pressed, also felt like it wasn't running on 8 cylinders, and felt like it had no power, and also went through an enormous amount of fuel on the way home, any ideas? I have ordered a new alternator but I wouldn't have thought the alternator would have any effect on the power or fuel usage?

Sounds like your voltage regulator on your alternator has crapped out, which messes up your computer big time with voltage spikes.
