True: but the other 99.999% of his time that he's NOT blasting up a freeway ramp should figure into the decision process too.

Also true that a smaller cam limits the benefits of heads etc. that he's sunk money into. However, it can easily be argued that all of that stuff is inappropriate for a TRUCK that's a DAILY DRIVER and that he wants GAS MILEAGE and whatnot out of. IMO he spent that money inappropriately, he could have gotten alot more of what he's looking for, without all that. That doesn't mean he needs to hurt himself even more by choosing a cam that isn't appropriate for a 5500 lb TRUCK with crappy gearing. He can rein in the inappropriateness and get something he'll enjoy far more, by selecting a cam that supports what his vehicle needs, rather than supporting what the other inappropriate parts are "capable" of. No sense in being the poster child for the "sunk cost fallacy".

Difference in philosophy I guess.

It seems the difference is in the actual use of the vehicle. Is this a truck being used/driven as a truck or a race car oriented hot rod truck?

IMO if the op wants to "have his cake and eat it too" a n/a setup is likely not the way to go. A truck thats used as a truck needs low speed torque, n/a building strategies to achieve this do not normally translate to high rpm/high hp. Conversely high rpm/high hp builds do not generally deliver high torque at low rpm.

Perhaps the op would be better off to sell the race car oriented parts he already has and put the funds towards a FI setup that will deliver both low speed torque and higher rpm power. Failing that he should clarify his needs/desires for the outcome of his build and set priorities to get there.

You'd probably do better to start your own thread.

Include in it, what vehicle it's going in, the intended use of the vehicle (honestly), and the gears/converter/tires thing so that we can get an idea what RPM range it needs to run in.

Thanks for the tag @Pro Stock John

@Eric Calhoun,

Create a thread of your own on here in Gen III internal or shoot us a PM and we'll be happy to help. You need to provide much more info on the combo and goals to make a sound recommendation.
