Default WS6 high lift hot cam pre-tune

I installed this cam a few months ago and due to covid have not made it to the tuner. 2002 LM7 in a 55 Belair 2dr sedan with 4L60E. I have pulled it out of the garage a few times and it has run fine. Today I said screw it, I am going to drive it a mile down the road to work. It started out in open loop and ran fine. By the time I got to the entrance to my neighborhood, it was running closed loop and died at the stop sign. I got it to start and took it back home. It ran fine after I got it out of idle. Is this due to the new cam with no tune? I assumed it would idle with the new came pre-tune in closed loop. How should I get it to the tuner in the next town? Unplug some sensor to get it to run in open loop? Am I misguided? Any help is appreciated, FFR1910

That cam is a pretty radical change from a stock 5.3 cam so it's not likely it's going to do anything very well without a tune.

I cannot say without looking at data but it may be okay to lightly cruise it NO WOT PULLS just gently drive to the tuner. The fuel trims will compensate and help out and it shouldn't go horribly lean but in all cases it is best to tow it or at minimum have a base tune to run on.

As for disconnecting sensors I wouldn't. It really needs the maf and 02 sensors at this point to enrichen the mixture as much as possible in closed loop. In open loop it wont do any compensation for the different air flow and A/F ratio needs. It will just run in a program for the stock cam, you want it to at least try to make the new cam work out.

There's a chance it will be okay at part throttle cruising, I would imagine in closed loop it could fuel it okay enough to keep it safe, but I've never tried it so I'm not saying it will or that you should do it.

If your tuner is far away and the tow is going to be really expensive call your insurance company and see if they have an upgraded towing package. I have it on my insurance with nationwide and it costs me $10 per 6 months and gives me up to 100 miles of towing in a single trip for free, unlimited times a year, and I can use it on any car I sit my *** in, even other people's cars as long as I was in it when it broke down. It's pretty sweet. If you get that then you can get the car towed for damn near nothing and not have to worry about any of this or worry about hurting your wallet

pooter, thank you for reinforcing what I have been hearing from others. I hope to get it to the tuner in the next two weeks. It is one town over but I will have it towed to be safe. Bill
