Default LM7 5.3 Running temperature

Hey All! I have a 5.3 LM7 with an electric fan. At idle it runs at 220 degrees. I have a brand new stock 185 degree thermostat and there are no leaks in my cooling system. 220 seems kinda hot too me. Just curious what everyone else thinks.

What vehicle, stock or aftermarket radiator, electric fan pushing or pulling and does it have a fan shroud. It does seem a little hot. Did you confirm the gauge reading is accurate?

My dual 12-inch fans, Cold Case LS swap radiator keeps my stock air-conditioned LM7 somewhere around 210-215 F stuck in traffic here in the Louisiana summertime heat with a 195 degree thermostat. I'm happy with that temperature and I've discovered that I'm water pump RPM-constrained at my normal 650 RPM, if anything.

Stuck in hot afternoon traffic, I can put it in neutral and up the RPM to maybe 1200 with my foot and take 10-15 degrees off the gauge temperature in maybe five minutes. I'm not going to change anything here because I'm OK with my typical temperature but it is nice to know where the constraints to cooling are located.

My LM7 in my 2004 sierra was the same way. Would click it in neutral and raise the rpm to bring temps down. The water pumps just don't push enough water at low idle speeds.
