Need assistance I'm new to the Gen3/4 LS1 scene and its starting out with a problem. I'm pretty sure I have some valvetrain noise that makes my truck sound like a diesel at idle, I've changed the oil and had to sparkles or build up on the magnet. What I want to know is how is how to make sure its valvetrain issues for sure before i spend money on a top end kit
I mean you can do a compression test to see if you can locate which cylinder it maybe. Then pull the valve cover on that side. See if anything is wrong pushrod or rocker wise. If not the you need to Pull the head to look at the lifters and cam which if the noise sound higher in the engine I’m sure it’s a lifter/cam problem
You can learn a lot from compression and leak down tests but what's the oil pressure look like? When was the last time the plugs and wires had been changed? If its valvetrain related you can take piece of garden hose and listen to see if you can isolate where the noise is coming from.
