Default Ported oil pump question

Does everyone who run a ported oil pump have increased pressure along with it.

Generally only if you shim the pressure relief spring.

Is there something as too much pressure ?? What I mean is pressure that is too high and does not benefit the friction coeficient characteristics of certain oils.

The rule of thumb is 10 lbs for every 1000 rpm,too much pressure or too much volume equal hotter oil or all your oil pumped to the top of your motor, heads, lifter valley, and no oil in your oilpan, make sense????Also waste hp to turn the pump. Also too much pressure can damage your bearings, too much oil pressure can cause hydralic lifters to PUMP-UP and cause unwanted valvefloat,in other words the extra oil pressure will take up your pre-load and push your valves off the seat ie not closing at all,yes it can happen!!!So yes you can have too much oil pressure and too much volume.Oh yea the extra oil draining from the top of your motor back to the oilpan is going to fall on your spinning crank throwing it on the rods and bottom of the pistons causing increased oil usage also a loss in power because of the extra drag of the oil slinging around not too mention airation of the oil causing it not to lube probably.Theres a good article in the sept. chevy high performance where they put in extra oil to see what it would do,also they tested a different windage tray and oilpan, the motor gained a solid 25 hp with just a change of these parts.

Sounds like the pump you have is a non shimed pump. That is why you are seeing the same pressure. You will be fine running it.
