Ls cam help
After a bit of advice. I've been out of the ls scene for near 20 years.
I need some help specifically around cam choice. Back in the day the Trex and MS3 were 2 of the standout big cams that produced the goods. So what's happened in the last 20 years around big cams?
I'm after a big cam with big power from 3500-6800rpm. Car IS NOT A daily driver and I understand I'm going to have to run a big stall. Primarily cruising but more track and happy for the compromise of bad manners on the street. I'll be doing the heads and intake at a later date.
I'm chasing 400-420 hp or more if possible at the tires and I'm going use a set of Howard 1.71 rockers, new lifters, mellings oil pump, pushrods and double row timing chain , just as general maintenance.
Any help is appreciated
Cheers
Lee

Any one of them will steer you straight on a good LS cam.
Anyway, the Ms3 is certainly a legend and most of what has occurred since then is to develop lobes that are a little easier on the valvetrain to extend Rpm for more net area under the curve. Less valvetrain noise from easier exhaust lobe closing is a plus. It sounds like you are looking for something that’s more relaxed and not cantankerous at this point in your life and might enjoy a cam like the 222 duration Sum-8715R1. It makes most of the power of cams in the ms3 range with a mild idle. A LOT of power under the curve to match typical gear and converter means similar overall acceleration if that makes sense versus that narrow 6000-7000rpm range. This is just a starting point of course and can offer a Cam Motion, Btr, Pro Ls or just about any cam to dial them into your exact needs.
