Default Crankshaft scratch

Hey guys. Yesterday I put this scratch on one of the main journals by accident while measuring my ls1 crank. I smoothed out the edges gently with a scotchbrite pad. So you can no longer feel any jagged edge with your finger but can still catch the recess with your finger nail. What is yalls take on whether this thing might need a polish? I asked a mechanic buddy that said to just run it but wanted some other expert opinions. Thanks

Matthew

As long as there is nothing sticking up and no rough edges.... run it.

Your call ultimately, maybe it will be okay, maybe it will not.
Are you willing to take it all apart if this causes a problem. I’d take it to be polished myself.

Appreciate the responses. Still torn on what to do with it though. There is definitely not anything sticking up over the edges anymore after the scotchbrite. Any other takes on this thing.

I had a 6 banger this happened to, did the same thing you did, and had no issues. Oil pressure was fine, and no noise.

You can buy cloth sand paper in rolls. Most good hardware stores sell it by the foot. 600 or 1000 grit. Shoe shine that journal, will be good to go.
