I have a gen 3 5.3 that I will be running a s/475 turbo on. My main and rod bearing clearances are .0024 to .0030. Should I run a standard oil pump or high volume oil pump? Also what is the suggestion of oil?

I called Bowtie Engine Shop yesterday to go through a similar question, this is what they recommended to me. They said all of their LS builds they have had great luck with the Melling oil pumps. Hope this helps, if its good enough for them, then that will be what I will be running.

1 x 98-02 LS1 RPM Speed Single Heavy Duty Timing Set (RPM-HDTS)

I talked with Danny M. Owner of Bowtie engine shop on what he recommended on oil pump, timing chains, and head bolts or studs, he is easily one of the premier engine builders in this area and his son Eric won Heads up Outlaw 235 in Las Vegas a few years back, they are the premier LS guys in our area along with Aaron Ginn in Cheyenne. If that is what they are using for oil pumps and timing chain covers its good enough for me. I did ask him about double roller timing chains, he said they have encountered rubbing issues at times on the timing chain cover and rubbing up on the top by the camshaft, in his opinion he runs the heavy duty singles and has never had any issues. So that's what I have always ran, my 99' in my Sig is still running making almost 4 digits hp with that oil pump and timing chain for almost 10-12 years now, and some hard miles here and there at the track (7500rpm)
