Hey guys,
I'm rebuilding a motor with 115K miles on it that has sat for the past year as far as I know. The lifters all (except maybe one or two of them) have these little black dots in one spot on them that I can feel with my fingernail. I have no idea how these could form but wondering if this means I should just replace them. I had the short block inspected and cleaned up with new rings and bearings. The machine shop found that two of the rods had been replaced and the bearings were looking a bit rough. Also oddly enough it has a forged steel crank. Anyways, just thought this was odd as I was inspecting the lifters. This is in a Z28 that won't see the track.
Thanks
Trash them. They are pitted and will destroy the cam lobes over time, plus will be noisy while doing it. Bummer is that it’s hard finding parts right now, lifters included.
Thanks. I looked at the stock cam that was just removed and was surprised how much pitting is on the lobes. I already have the new cam in the block and new valve springs on the heads. I was hoping to reuse the stock lifters but doesn't sound like a good idea. New Comp 850's will be here tomorrow.
