Default Inspecting Main Bearings for wear

I have a junkyard 6.0 with unknown mileage that I ran for about 5K miles in my Crown Vic with a 7875 turbo. The engine ran with 40+psi oil pressure, no noise at all from lifters, top or bottom end, etc. I recently removed the engine to swap into another car and upon pulling the oil pan found about half a dozen small slivers of metal in the oil pickup screen, as well as about a half dozen more in the pan. They are very thin, with the consistency of aluminum foil; I have not yet checked if they're magnetic. I did pull 2 rod caps to inspect those bearings and they looked nearly new. I do plan on pulling the cam just to inspect those bearings.

Could these have come from the main bearings?

If I inspect the main bearings and find that they're not the source, can I follow the OEM procedure for removing and reinstalled the main caps/bolts? I believe they are reusable.

Should I stop worrying and just send this thing to the moon?

I would suspect cam/lifters and/or timing set (chain/sprockets) if bearings are off the suspect list. EZ to check since you have it apart.

Wonder if those pieces could be the foil seal from the 5qt oil jugs?

Good question.
I have a copy of a factory service manual that says main & rod cap bolts must be replaced, but I don't think most people do that.

Rod and main fasteners are torque to angle (TTA), not torque to yield (TTY) therefore they can be re-used. I’ve done it many times myself.
