Default Lq9 build safe stroke for boost

I’m new here and I’m general to ls engines. Picked up an 86 mcss and a used lq9. Dropped off the lq9 to get bored over .30 dipped and decked. But still debating on which route to go. I plan on some day boosting it but it will def be NA for some time as this is getting pricey with a quickness. I understand the cylinder walls are short and the piston may come out the bottom in the short blocks with a 4.000 stroke so was thinking maybe a lighter stroke that won’t affect it as much. Maybe someone on here has an idea the power difference between stoked and stock stroke. Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Ran a 4 inch stroke with boost for 10's of thousands of miles, zero issues. But it would also depend on your RPM and power goals.

NA a reliable 4.25 inch stroke can be done with a 6.0 block IF the engine builder knows what they are doing and uses the correct piston package. Finding such an engine builder can be challenge. Lot so called engine builders are parts slappers that can't do basic math to build a reliable 4 inch stroke LS.

LPE, BES, HPR, TSP other select shops can build reliable long stroke LS engines. Usually they don't recommend power adders for the 4, 4+ inch crank set ups. However, it can be done like ddnspider mentioned.

However, no reason in my opinion to stroke an LS motor if you're doing boost. Turbo charged stock stroke 5.3's can make 1,200+ whp for example. Skip the expense of a stroker rotating assembly and spend that on Forced Induction. Just cranking up the boost a little easily makes up for the ~40 less cubes.

thanks for the response. I am doing forged rods and pistons so want to upgrade crank to forged aswell. Power I’m looking for may be around 1k. Mostly street when boosted. So have to spend on a crank no matter what. Just want to get the right one. Was thinking maybe a 3.800 stroke? Something in between . I don’t want to worry about the short walls when I do boost. But want as much power as possible in the meantime.

Lots of 4.0 stroke boosted engines out there. Good torque while staying normally aspirated too.

Could try a L8T crank, (3.85 stroke) with 6.200 rods and shelf stroker pistons for a middle of the road combination.

thanks. Where can I find this crank? All I’m finding is eagle and another but 3.750. There is a mast crank but when I spoke to them apparently it takes a ton of machining to go into a steel block.
