The LS6 cam with a better centerline for more power.

If you wanted a change of pace with a cam swap we have some Pro LS cams that would be a good fit here. We understand not wanting to change out the LS6 springs. However, with a .600" lift beehive we have a couple of options that would provide more power with better driveability than what you have now.
Option 1: Our Pro LS stage 2 high-lift truck cam SUM-8720R1. Specs on it are .600/.600, 218/227, 112+2 with -1* of overlap. Similar to the GM hot cam but with smoother lobes and more lift. We have a ton of folks that run this cam in trucks with a 5.3 or 6.0 and have had no complaints of poor driveability. That's with stock compression and stock stall speed in an auto trans. Your bump in compression with other bolt-ons will really be a benefit with the 8720R1. Pair it with our SUM-174004 .600" lift beehives and it will be happy to 6,500+.
Here's an example of the 8720R1 idle in a 6.0.
Option 2: Our Pro LS stage 1 Automotive cam SUM-8715R1 otherwise known as the "Ghost" cam. @Mavn helped us name this cam with his 4th gen and LS1 in his extensive thread. Specs on it are .600/.575, 222/234, 115+3 with -2* of overlap. This cam is VERY popular for folks looking for a nice bump in power, but don't want to deal with a choppy idle and poor driveability. You want to put the joy back in driving your 4th gen this is the ticket right here. Your choice of 243 heads, intake, and headers will be icing on the cake with the Ghost cam. Paired with our SUM-174004 beehives it will be happy out to 6,800+.
Here's an example of the Ghost cam idle in an LS1.
If the LS6 springs are a requirement then we would recommend our Pro LS stage 2 truck cam SUM-8701R1. Specs on it are .522/.524, 218/227, 112+2 with -1* of overlap. Similar specs to the GM Hot cam but modern lobe technology. Similar to the 8720R1 plenty of folks that run this cam in a truck with a 5.3 or 6.0 and no complaints of poor idle quality or driveability.
Here's an example of the 8701R1 idle in a 6.0 that happens to be in a 4th gen.
We know folks like combos and all of our Pro LS cams are available in a variety of combos to help with a cam swap.
- 8720R1 combos
- 8715R1 combos
- 8701R1 combos
Lastly, for a little insight behind the design and manufacturing of our Pro LS cams check out this article!
I also think Howards recomends 140-340 springs. That maybe a little out of the range for LS6 beehives, but there are other beehives which will work with your retainers. Hope this helps.
