Default 5.3 Heads and Gaskets...

Any problems with using the 02+ GM steel gaskets with 5.3 heads? I'm guessing they don't have the notch. I'm asking for someone else and haven't seen the heads.

Glen, some early 5.3L heads do have the notch, I've seen about 4 sets come through. I always use the graphite gaskets just because they fit everything.

These 5.3's do not have the notch. They are casting 862. Should we just use the 02' 5.7 metal gaskets?

You can use either the MLS (02+) or the Graphite (97-01) gasket. Don't use a 5.3L gasket though, use the gasket that matches your shortblock.
