zero cranking oil pressure
I have an L77 engine that I changed the cam, lifters etc to do the dod delete. The bottom end was left untouched.
I am ready for initial start.
I thought I would pull out the fuel pump relay before initial start so that I could get cranking oil pressure before firing.
I have a zero oil pressure reading on the scan tool plugged into the obd port and zero oil pressure reading on my oil pressure gauge on the dash which has an independent (from the ecu oil pressure sender) pressure sender in the block.
I don't want to reconnect the fuel pump relay and fire it up hoping that oil pressure will build on start up in case I damage the engine.
Should I be able to get an oil pressure reading on cranking without firing?
Please help.
After a cam swap on a 1999 car, I did see some oil pressure on the gauge on the dash (but not much).
Both had a new melting 10295? high pressure oil pump installed, and both built good pressure almost immediately after starting.
here is a video of the "first start" on the 2001. This was probably the 2nd or 3rd actual start attempt as it would stall out pretty quick without feathering the throttle.
I had cranked it for a while trying to build some kind of pressure. But after I primed it, it was almost instant.
