96 ta would have a different ignition system than the LS1. So the diagnoses is completely different.

Yeah, the 96 TA has a single coil, and it's almost always the optispark distributor. But we would need to know a lot more about your problem first.

Make sure your ECT sensor reads correctly both cold and warm.
