OP,

You've received some great advice from the community.

We like @68Formula's recommendation of our SUM-8728R1 "Big Torkinator". It'll have a nice steady lope at idle but will be easy to tune and live with. It's a great "truck cam" for folks with a 6.0 that tow. This would work well for this fine specimen of a '67 Chevelle and your goals. Low-end torque with good throttle response but maintain efficiency. It'll make great torque from 2,000 on up and pulls well to 6,500+ for when you're feeling sporty. Our .600" lift beehives will keep the valvetrain happy. With the 8728R1 you could keep the stock torque converter. A 2,500+ converter would help off-the-line performance or from a slow roll.

Another option we think would be a great fit here is our SUM-8720R1. Specs on it are .600/.600, 218/227, 112+2 with -1* of overlap. It'll have a noticeable lope depending on idle speed. It will be easy to tune and live with. This has a similar intake valve closing to the LS6 cam moving the power a bit to the right when compared to the 8728R1. It has a 39* IVC @ .050" compared to the 33* IVC of the 8728R1. What might be lost in 2,000 and under torque will be gained in the mid-range and top-end. That shouldn't be of concern though with this combo. We have plenty of folks out there using this in 3/4 ton trucks with 6.0's that do plenty of towing. Those are 6,000+ lbs trucks lugging a trailer behind them. A '67 Chevelle should roughly weigh around 3,200-3,500 lbs. The added benefit of this cam over the LS6 cam is the added lift and overlap of -1* compared to -24* of the LS6 cam. Added Lift and increased overlap is basically power/torque across the range. Although, it's still pretty efficient. You should need less throttle getting up to speed and between gears. That is if you can keep your foot out of it

The 8720R1 can work with our same .600" lift beehives. With either cam you could go with .660" lift duals if you're one for added insurance. The 8720R1 is about the limit for use with a stock converter. We typically recommend a 2,500+ stall for it and most folks end up with around a 3,000 stall. Although a converter isn't required for it. Having 3:50 gears is certainly better for get up and go than say 3:08 gears.

Let us know if we can be of any further assistance. We'll be happy to help!
