Default Cam Recommendation 408

I have a 408 I'm moving from a mud truck to my Fbody. Gonna change some parts before putting it in. Currently has a 235/243 .621/.624 112+4 on Comp LSL Lobes.

408 is 10.5:1 Compression, has PRC 247cc heads, and a ported FAST 102.

I'd like to keep my Yank SS 3600, may try and trade for a SS 4000 or have it restalled by Yank.

Cheaper to go with what you got already, but a Pat G Trex Cam be nice in that 408 with 247 Heads...

I've considered just keeping the cam that's in it. But that was specced for 6500lb lifted truck with a stick and 4.88s. So I'm willing to spend a little money to get the cam right for the setup going into the car if it means it'll pick up 15-20hp up top. I like the looks of that Pat G cam, I'm gonna look into it more. Thanks!

The Trex in an Ls1 was for high RPM, in an LS2 for mid to high RPM, and in a 408 will make power all around and work well with the 3600 stall and some 3.73-4.10s.

Id keep the cam that's in it. I once used a similar Comp cam in my LS7 C5, that was originally for an LS1 based Darton 427. Mine was 238/242 duration, .638/.646" lift, on a 114 LSA. Made 617chp@6,300, and 565tq@5,000.....

That is the exact cam I installed in the 408 I am building. It is going in a 68 Camaro with 4.11:1 gears and a six speed. I am running AFR Mongoose heads and will be running a FAST 102. What kind of numbers is your engine making now.

Truck never went on a dyno with the 408, but Texas Speed when they built the long block said it should make 580-600hp crank. I figure in my Trans Am it'll make high 400s at the tires. Which seems pretty low for a 408 by modern standards, but it's only 10.5:1, and I'll just boost it down the road.
