I would make them aware of it ASAP. I'm surprised they weren't your first call....

As long as it goes in, it won't likely hurt anything, but I'd be curious how deep it is.

It is right, no.

The block is actually for a friend. The shop was open till noon today and I called him and spoke with him about it, naturally he wants me to bring it to him, one of his guys bored it and he obviously didn't check after but nor did my friend who picked the block up at the time.

My friend is working today so I told him bring it to him next week...

They have a pretty good reputation so we'll see.

Worse case, could it be sleeved?

Yeah, of course it can be sleeved. Would it be worth it, thoough?

What kind of block is this?

It almost looks like porosity in the sleeve. If so, I’ve seen porosity peek it’s head out after porting heads and boring cylinders. The tricky thing about porosity is figuring out it’s path and exactly where it ends. If it’s porosity it was always there, it was simply hiding just under the sleeve skin, and wasn’t exposed until the boring head cut into it. The good thing I see here is location…its in a spot where it’s not going to affect ring seal at all. The bad thing I see here is location…if it’s into the water jacket (iron block), it’s going to be easier to find another block than to repair this one….IF its even porosity at all. I’m speculating here 100%. Hope this turns out ok for your friend.

It should have been "is it right ... no."

As long as there is no ridge, it will probably not be an issue, depending on how deep it is.

I didn't know that some of you wore helmets when you go poo poo.

It looks like it's below the rings. If so I wouldn't be too worried about it.

I brought it back to him and he installed a piston and it showed it was at the second ring when the piston is at bottom of cylinder, but he stated it'll be ok due to lubrication in the cylinder.. he stated if it was at the top of the cylinder it'll be a problem..

He did offer for free to bore the engine out more but it wouldnt guarantee it'll clean up better.

He also said it could be sleeved but he'll charge $500 total since it'll have to be decked for the new sleeve and for the sleeve work.

He stated again that none of it is necessary ...

what are yall thoughts of what he said.. this machine shop has a pretty good reputation around town...

If it’s not porosity that’s going to introduce coolant not the crankcase, I’d send it.
