Default Gen 3 or 4

A 2005 silverado hd 6 liters its considered a gen 3 or 4? Should be 24 teeth or 58 in the reluctor wheel?

Double posted this but I'm pretty sure it's Gen IV. An easy way to know is to look at the crank sensor behind the starter. A 24X will be black and the 58X is gray.

That engine is an LQ4. No HD Gen IV 6.0's were made before 07.

Gen III for sure. No GMT 800 ever came with Gen IV engines

Now, that engine is the late Gen III and most likely got the Gen IV rods, etc.

My 05 Tahoe was a Gen III 5.3 with Gen IV rods so I'm in agreement but all one has to do is to look at the crank sensor or pull it and look at the reluctor ring. Also Gen III's have the cam sensor on the back of the block behind the intake manifold and knock sensors underneath the manifold.

Gen III all day. Plenty of people above posted why.

Gen IV Full Floating Rods started coming in stuff in 2004, the LQ9 was the only thing before everything else that had them Rods.

I have a 2006 6.0l LQ4 in my MCSS, pulled it from a wrecked 3/4 ton Van. It's what's loosely called the Gen III.5
It is Gen III all day, 24X Engine with black Crank Sensor, Cam Sensor at the top back left and Knock Sensors in the Valley, but has as follows:

Gen IV Rods
1X Cam Gear
Threaded & Tapped holes for the Timing Chain Dampener
Threaded & Tapped holes on both sides of the Block for Gen IV Knock Sensors

All that was in it when I got it and opened it up to look it over and build it up.
