my 1998 car has no slap. 60x miles,

a friends 2002 Z28, and another 2002 Z28 both have nasty piston slap, so bad that one sold the car cause of it, while it was still under warranty.

My 02 has no signs of Piston slap - 4K but 97 Z-28 has the problem.

Ive never heard of an LT1 having pistonslap , although there may be cases

98 w/ 141,000 miles no piston slap and about 1/2 a quart per oilchange consumption....

Mine has 60k miles, and I just had my head gaskets replaced...... NOW I have piston slap in the morning. The dealer has been telling me it's normal, and I've been pretty pissed about it. Now I'm glad I bit my tounge and didn't call anybody a lier. :LOL:

My 97 has piston slap - it is a problem when it is cold - does not last long but it is there.

When I first got my TA and I heard it ticking I was as usual paranoid as all hell. Then I listened to my dads 96 Tahoe and heard pretty much the same thing. Enough to say that it made me feel a little better.

What I've always wondered is how a completely rebuilt, aftermarket bottom end LSx sounds. Ticking at all? I'm planning on finding out myself next June

When I first joined the f-body.org mailing list in 1996 I remember a lot of LT1 guys complaining of piston slap but in those cases the sound only happened above 2500rpm on a cold engine. My 95 Trans Am at the time did it, but I rarely went above 2500 on a cold engine so it didn't bother me.

Good question. I never hear about one unless somebody is having problems on here.

Patman is 100% correct, it happens when the engine is cold and the RPM are about 2000 and above in my case. It is there, that is all I can say. I heard loud and clear.

I get it for a few seconds in my 00 but thank good it uses no oil and runs excellent.I had a 00 k2500 w/6.0 and in 10k miles it rattled hard cold much worse then the Z and my buds 01 k2500 w/6.0 rattles cold and has all kinds of valvetrain noise so the iron block theory is debunked.

I've had cold knock in my car since it had 2500 miles on it. I now have 35,000 on it and it's the same. It's all because of the short piston skirt design that allows the piston to rock back and forth when the engine is cold. It's not a problem at all and doesn't bother me in the least.
