Default Should I replace my oil pump?

I’m adding a turbo to my 2002 corvette along with an oil cooler and oil accumulator. I’m thinking these three things may put a lot of strain on my oiling system so I’m considering either a high pressure or high volume (or both) oil pump. Is this a good idea? My only concern is I’ve heard some people say this can “suck the oil pan dry”. Is this a myth and if not would running an extra quart prevent this?

By the way the car has 105,000 miles and I’m looking to make 550 whp.

Compare the number of threads where someone replaced a pump and had problems to the number of threads where a stock oil pump caused problems. I think the numbers you find will be very eye opening.

You have as much chance of sucking the pan dry with a Melling 10296 HV pump as I do sucking the 500 million dollar winning Lotto ticket out of the local party store, and I don't play the Lotto!!!! BTW, I've run a Melling 10296 for the last 19 years in an LS7 wet sump. Never any problems, EVER. I'm replacing it with a Melling M365 HV, ported by Tony Mamo....

yeah I figured it was a myth but the question still stands, should I go with the HV or stay with the stock?

YES. The 10296 is an excellent pump. Personally, I'd run the standard pressure spring...

Sucking the pan dry is a SBC thing with High Volume Pumps. LS Engines oil different, and love the volume. I'd run some extra oil in it anyway given some will be going to the Turbo.

I put the melling 10296 in EVERY LS I build, thinking of trying the 10355hv for the gen 4 blocks due to the extra oil galleys as the 10296 I've seen a few with low 20s on hot idle , which I know is above spec and plenty safe but the stock pump usually in the 30s hot idle. As soon as you even think about throttle the pressure goes up quickly tho.
