Default Pilot Bushing

Hello I've run into a problem that I've not had before. I'm trying to remove my pilot Bushing from old crank. And put it into new since it's only 8 months old. I put grease into bushing area like I've done several times before. So grease is packed I grab rod for removing bushing, I hit it with hammer couple times then it got real easy all of a sudden. So I pack it again and try same thing real easy. I remove grease from area, some how my grease is going through the end of crankshaft.

Yup. There’s a freeze plug back behind the pilot bushing area, to seal the crankcase atmosphere from the pilot bushing area…crank is center-hollow drilled. You’ve pushed the plug into the crankcase…if the crank is still in the block. I don’t bother trying to remove the pilot bushings from LS engines. It’s a much tighter interference fit than a SBC. Just buy another one…like $15 at Summit and you’ll have it in 2 days.

Local parts stores sell them, bought plenty at Orielly's. Fix that Freeze Plug too.
