I just picked up a good shape L33. I'm putting it in a fully built S14 240sx I already have. Mainly to save weight and I'm a little bored. The car has a lq9 403 with a g42-1200, t56 mag, McCloud clutch, dual 450s, terminator x running on e85. It made 750 rwhp on 12psi.
I plan on building this L33 pretty nice, not top of the line but not stock internals. Thinking about doing a 3.8 bore and stroke, mostly because I think square engines are cool. Anyway I called up my local machine shop and told them what I needed. Bore to 3.8", check deck, new cam bearings, and line hone mains because I'm installing arp main studs. He told me he can't hone the mains because LS caps are powdered metal. I've never heard this before.
Question is this really true about not being able to hone powdered metal caps? Also, can anyone recommend a good machine shop in Northern California (SF Bay)?
Thank you 😁
Lol. I have the mains honed on every aluminum LS build I do, with ARP main studs. Here’s a picture of the last one I had honed for ARP main studs. Pictures are worth a thousand words here…pic says it all. Find you another shop sir.
How are these supposed "machine shops" staying in business with the ridiculous amount of disinformation they put out? I don't know of any shops in California, but you definitely need to locate a different one.
