Default Cheap DOD/AFM delete gone wrong

5.3 with AFM swapped into a car. I removed the VLOM and blocked the oil passages, installed a regular valley tray and an LS1 intake. Installed the engine and it fired up and ran good.....for a time. Now I get random valves not working so I will randomly get popping out the intake (exh valve not opening) , or huge vacuum spike (int valve not opening). My thought was that if there was no VLOM supplying oil pressure to release the locking pins that the lifter would just function as a normal lifter, this does not seem to be the case.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Yeah I'm pretty certain you should've replaced the timing set, camshaft, lifters and trays on this.

I know that would have worked, I am more questioning what is going on with what I did. If I had simply unplugged the VLOM the DOD would have stopped working and the engine would have ran normally.

Yea that's definitely not an LM4, they are a Gen III Aluminum 5.3l.

I thought I was slipping when I read "2005 LM4 5.3 with AFM" at first...guess I'm not the only one...

Anyway, I'm curious to find out what he really has...

Yup some pics would greatly help here. Obviously it'll be a Gen IV 5.3l from the sounds of it.

Ah yes LS1tech...I remember this place now. Anyway I solved the issue and it can be done without replacing the cam, lifters and trays.

LOL. These guys simply brought up that perhaps you might not have an LM4….I was actually proud of them this time. They were taking it easy and wondering what engine you have. I am inquisitive myself as to what your working on, and how you came about making the repairs.

I guarantee you it was something really stupid, and he's embarrassed to say what it was.

Interestingly, it can be asserted that my posterior possesses the unusual ability to engage in the act of chewing bubble gum. This statement serves as a lighthearted reminder of the unexpected capabilities that can exist in various contexts.
