Default Enginetech still a good brand/supplier?

Hey all.

Stumbled across a marketplace listing for a 6.0 shortblock that needs new pistons. Was hoping to find a used set of OE pistons but every used set is in just as bad if not worse condition than the current pistons in the motor. Rockauto has enginetech pistons listed at 160 for a full set, which seems like a great deal. I've found a couple of threads on here that are pretty old saying enginetech is good for a stock/mild rebuild, but wanted to make sure nothing has changed in the last few years. Any feedback?

Enginetech pistons are Silvolite. Great stuff for non-boosted applications.

Beware that some of them have a shorter compression height than factory pistons. If that is the case, I'd just use a thinner head gasket.

I’ve used quite a few EngineTech kits. Great for mild builds. In fact, I went back through one this past spring because it spun a cam bearing. Pistons still looked great with virtually no skirt wear. They looked so good in fact that I put new rings on them, dingleball honed the cylinders, and they went back in. Thy had ver 30k miles on them, with pretty hard use. They are Silvolite as mentioned.

Are you looking for dished or flattop OE pistons?

I’m looking for a set of flattops like the L33 5.3L or any 4.8L flattops that are full floating. I’ve seen silv-o-lite about the same price. But wondering if these are hypereutectic like the silvolites ?

They are hypereutectic.

I have some OE flat top with valve reliefs.

Personally I’m looking for the flattops without valve reliefs as I’m not using VVT and cam is relatively mild so I’d rather the slightly higher compression. Can’t remember if the difference is gen 4s with VVT and square port heads (later gen 4s) or if they were also used in gen 3/4s that had VVT. But I’m looking for just the pure flattop style.

No 4.8/ 5.3 ever received Rectangle port heads The difference is in the cam timing on VVT VS. NON VVT.

GM Part number 89060486 is 1 piston assembly. Flat top for the 3.78 bore on the 4.8/5.3L with floating pin style rods

The Flat top with valve relief was for the VVT style engine which I believe was only in the 5.3L
