Can anyone tell if my reluctor wheel is on the correct direction? My machine shop said something about the tear drop shaped hole facing you when the crank is upside down. So, basically, if it was standing up on the floor with the front snout on the ground, you would look for the tear drop shaped hole. Supposedly, that's how you tell which way the reluctor wheel goes on. Does this sound right? I haven't taken the crank all the way out yet. I was hoping to avoid doing that. I just need to know if it's on correctly.
Yes, your machine shop is correct. The teardrop-shaped hole on the reluctor wheel must face outward (toward you) when the crankshaft is installed in the engine and rotated to the #1 cylinder TDC position. This ensures proper timing alignment with the crank sensor. If it's backward, your engine will not run correctly. Double-check its position before final assembly.
