How does this happen??
As the car was down anyways I was changing my valve covers and noticed on cylinder 1 that the rocker on the intake had the pin that holds the wheel on somehow rattled off and is sitting in the pan and with any luck it's stuck to my magnetic plug.
Rockers in question are 3/8" stud mount Lunati 1.7 aluminum rollers. Johnson 2110r lifters. Trick Flow spring kit 2500295:
1.275 of spring
1.080 coil bind
450 lbs/in
1.800 installed height
150 lbs seat pressure
420 lbs open pressure
This is the only rocker that this happened too all the others are good to go. I can't imagine my springs being the culprit since they aren't really that wild. Could it just be a stroke of bad luck?? Or fatigue that ultimately led to this failure?? There's about 10k miles on this engine.
It looks to me like the engine was stopped just as this was happening there was no aluminum in immediate area of that valve and it looks like the aluminum was smeared on the retainer.
Anyways let me know what y'all think of this one. Thanks guys
I'd love to donkey kick the aftermarket right in the sack for all of this but I also can't live without them so here we are.
I'm gonna go ahead and say it's a one off and try to sleep tonight...

1) TRY to buy ONE lunati rocker to replace the (known) bad one...
2) Buy a set of SIXTEEN Lunati rockers, and HOPE you've replaced the bad ones...
3) Buy sixteen NOT- Lunati rockers ?
Pretty sure Lunati had discontinued those rockers years ago
I do think that you and I might solution in the same way though… it’s all gotta go, you know while I’m in here and stuff.

Its like the first time you fire up a fresh engine, except I have it for this first 100 miles anytime I mess with internals which is sorta frequently.
And again I’m pretty sure I’d have gone with option 3 as well here.
