Default Need advice on L92 core purchase

As the post suggests I know someone who has 2- L92 short blocks for sale. One has 155,000 mi. and another has 186,000 mi. each one he's asking 1300.00. I only want to purchase the block and crank from one of them. Appreciate any input on what to look for visually from either one of the setups, any trouble areas around water jackets, sleeves or other areas I should be looking at on a aluminum block? I believe that they are original and haven't been touched yet. Have not seen them yet but planning to go this weekend if still available.
I'm running a cast iron 6.0Lwith LS3 heads and don't have any issues but think this is a good deal for a aluminum block for future use. TIA.
DOH......I think that these are Gen IV and the mods can move over to that area if needed.

Always look close at the water jackets across the bottom of the sleeves on top of the deck. If the engine has ever had water in it and froze, it will have hairline cracks across this area. The block is junk at that point.

I buy a lot of blocks…which sometimes I buy the shortblock, or long block even, just for the block. I never pay full asking price, because negotiations are a normal way to conduct business for anyone selling or buying anything used. If these two cores were local to me, I’d put my eyes on them first and confirm the blocks are useable. I’d then make him/her a cash offer. I just sold a useable 6.2 block for $1500…that’s about the blocks current value, maybe a couple hundred more. Used l92 heads often need guides if mileage is 150k+…something to consider. If the cranks are nice they will fetch a couple two-three hundred. Rod sets are bringing $100 if still round and I have stacks of them. I’m in N. Georgia and this is what pricing is doing in these parts. Just something to consider here. At the end of the day, aluminum LS blocks are starting to dry up, so if you can get these and they are decent, I’d grab them. Pricing will only go up from here as time goes by.

That's crazy that those engines are bringing those kinds of numbers. Up here in Michigan, everything is rusting out and hitting the scrap yard. I went there today and picked up a complete L92 for $300, and there was at least one other L92 in there, and an LFA aluminum 6.0 in a Tahoe. If I could get money like that for one, I might just go buy another to flip it.

Must vary on the area in Michigan. I am 30 miles N.E. of Flint. There's no way you could buy a running L92 anywhere near $300 around here. At least from a yard. You might get REALLY lucky to find one private sale for $600. Hell, around my area you'd have a hard time finding a 305 SBC for $300! You stole that L92!! Congrats on a Helluva deal.
