Default Thinking of moving to a bigger cam....

I have been running a mild Comp XE cam since November (218/218, .563/.563 114+4) and I have decided to move to something larger and more aggressive. I really have my eye on the MTI C1 or more likely the C2. My question is this..... I installed Comp 918 springs when I did the first cam. They have performed very well for over 7,000 miles. Do I need to change them out, or will they be ok with the new cam? I know they are well within spec to handle that cam, I am just worried that new, additional duration and lift will break them or something. I welcome your opinions. Thanks.

Hi there Samba, how's it goin'? I'm looking at the C1 now also, and I've been told it works fine with 918's. Also, there are a lot people on this board with that combination already. The C1 should have the same ramp rate and comparable lift with as your present cam. I don't think the .003 inch lift difference would be very significant. For the C2, on the other hand, I would use dual springs, although there are people getting away with 918's with this cam also. The C2 has XE-R lobes which have a faster ramp rate than the C1.

Thanks Cal...... long time no talk. I am about 90% for the Hammer cam, since I doubt there is much difference from the C1 to the cam I have currently. Incidentally, I love this 218 cam that I have, but I heard a C2 in person a few weeks ago and it was not nearly as rough idling as I thought it was. My emissions concerns have dried up too, since for some reason, I didn't have to do sniffer testing yet again this year. I don't know why and I don't care.

Also.... my 218 cam runs perfectly on stock tuning.... can I get my M6 to idle well without tuning with the C2 cam?

Here's the response I got on this board when I asked about the Hammer cam, should answer some of your questions:

From what I understand, it you could run it without tuning, but you will get more power and a more reliable idle with tuning, or at least opening up the TB blade hole a little larger. Like you, I was concerned about driveability and emissions at first, but have since learned the cutoff for that is above a TR224.
