Default Back To Best Oil - But in HOT Weather

I know Patman has made several recommendations based on his studies . . . such as these:

Here is a quick list of the oils I like for the LT1 and LS1:

German Castrol 0w30
Amsoil 5w30, 0w30, 10w40
Redline 5w30, 5w40, 10w40
Mobil 1 5w40, 0w40
Royal Purple Racing 41
Will these oils also work well in HOT weather? Down here in AZ it can hit 30's at nite, but that's about the extent of it. And in the summer? Today it's forecast to hit 109. What is the best oil I could use considering it's always warm/hot here?

Also, I will be dropping in my new iron block 370 in the next couple of weeks . . . what is the best break-in procedure for it? Some guys believe in a 20-minute warmup, change the oil, thrash it on the dyno. Traditional methods are at least 500 mile breakin before thrashing it.

I run only Red Line Oil 5w30. You don't want to run a synthetic oil with a new motor with new rings.

Run Castrol GTX or Motorcraft 5w30, I don't think a 20 minute warmup is anything great, within that time you would probley get some fuel washed into the oil idling that long. You need some compression to seat the rings, this doesn't involve drag racing. However with a new motor I like to load it up in 2nd gear initially for the first few drives. Then Load it up in 3rd gear for a couple drives. Then go about your business after 100 miles.

Any of those oils I suggested will work very well in hot weather.

These new Amsoil "European" oils look good:

AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 European Engine Oil surpasses the North American SAE and European ACEA oil specifications for high temperature/high shear (HTHS) viscosity. It does not shear back to a lower viscosity oil in the high temperature/high shear conditions of today's smaller, high RPM automobile engines. AMSOIL 5W-40 contains high quality anti-wear additives for superior engine protection. It resists the damaging effects of heat, blowby chemicals and oxidation for extended drain intervals, providing cool, clean and
efficient engine performance.

I can order this for you, if you don't have an Amsoil dealer near you.
