Default Cam recommendations

I have an A4 Holden HSV Clubsport with 3.73 and standard stall converter. It has run 13.03 and 108mph at 3800lb.

4 into 1 extractors - twin 2"1/2 exhaust with merge pipe. 245 x 18 RE55 Bridgestones and over the radiator cai (with no air filter)

I have 1.8 Yella Terra Rockers and comp cams 918 springs.

The car is tuned mafless.

I am interested in what cam to put in it that wil give me greatest gains at the strip with the standard stall converter. Also interested in keeping it nice to drive on the street.

A few cars here are running the 54-416-11 comp cam its details are at
http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Cu...ML/200-203.asp

I am wondering if there is something better than this to combine with my 1.8 rockers. ?? People are suggesting a smaller cam than the above - because the car will be unlikley to be set to rev over 6600rpm for reliability issues anyway.

If you want my honest opinion, I would do a converter swap before i put in a cam. Something in the range of 3500 stall. Your driveability will not be affected, you will gain up to .6 second in the 1/4, much more than you'll do by putting in a cam.
Actually by putting on the 1.8 YT + springs (get hardened push rods as well), without a cam you'll increase your stock cam performance (increasing lifts).
That + 3500 stall you'll be in the mid 12's for sure with a bit of tweaking in the tune.
Only then I would do a cam, 224/.581/114 XE-R with UD pulley and now you're in the 11's

Is that lift number actual, or adjusted after the rockewrs were factored in? Cuz if thats the actual #'s, his rockers(as I'm sure you know) would put him at .615 lift. Thats pushin his 918's pretty close to tolerance, if you go by their original spec of .625".

**** I forgot about the 1.8, just smack me so I wake up.

Just get a cam in the .550 lift range or a little less.

The one you mentionned 220/224 is good or one stage bigger 224/228, .534/.537 112 (54-418-11)

I still would do stall first though.

To help you decide this is the formula to find your new lifts with 1.8 rockers
(lift intake/1.7) x 1.8= intake lifts with 1.8 rockers repeat for exhaust lifts

Thanks for correcting CT

Thanks for the info - I know very little about this stuff.
But it seems like a LSA of 114 or more may make it easier to get a bigger duration cam.

I need to stick with the standard stall at least initially.

So can go a little big with the possibility of a 3000 stall after a wait of 6-12months.

However it would be better if car can be tuned to idle smooth. Remember its tuned mafless.
