Default LS6 Cam Initial Impressions

Finally finished up my first LS1 cam install this evening. Installed a 02 LS6 cam and Springs along with a ASP UD pulley from TR. Install was very straightforward and was really not as hard as I had originally thought. Valvesprings were definately the hardest part of install. Took about 20 hours over a 3 day period. After completion I took a good hour of checking everything out and making sure all lines and hoses were connected. Refilled radiator and started. It fired right up and went to 900 rpm. I let it idle for a few mins and checked everything once again. Reved a few times and idle dropped to 600 rpm and a slight surge.

After feeling confident that everything was in top shape I took shut it down and restarted. Engine immediately started and went stright to the stock M6 idle. Then went for a short test drive to heat cycle the springs. I immediately noticed the improved throttle response and a engine that revs quicker due to the ASP pulley!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> I'm gonna heat cycle the springs a few more times tomorrow and then take it above 4K rpms to feel the increased power. BTW I did feel a bump in torque in the midrange of 3-3800 rpms. It sounds dead stock throught the SLP CME. It looks stock, sounds stock but it's NOT !!!!!!

I'll post a follow up soon after heat cycling the springs to let all of you LS6 cam interested fellas know how the increased power feels!

Yes let us know how it runs up top! Any plans for dyno?

What spring compressor tool did you use? And from what you said you are running the ls6 springs too?

Keep us informed <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I'll definately be posting a followup on the newfound power. I plan on dynoing as soon as possible however there are no dyno shops close to my location so I may take a weekend and head to PA to find a shop. I rented a valve spring compressor from Autozone. It's your traditional tool with the T handle. The last 2 springs under the cowl were a bitch but with numerous 4 letter words and a long chug of beer <img border="0" alt="[chug]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_chug.gif" /> they end up getting done. Yes I went with 02 LS6 valve springs.
