no that setup that droped a valve was a hyd roller with a TSP 231/237 cam and 11.3 compression

i had to build a complete new motor so i went solid roller and more compression

Ok, just was asking to gather some info to help myself to decide to spend the money to pull the heads to check them out before it happens to me.

What heads where you running LS1's LS6 or 5.3's? I assume the 5.3's if you had 11.3 Compression?

smart move
i would pull them and at least put some good valves in them
i was running the ls6 small chamber no milling and i had .040 cometics head gaskets with ARP bolts and i might be wrong i think the compression was 11.8 i would have to go back and look in the book i keep on all the cars and see how it all measured out for final compression

kyle, you can just buy a set of fierras the same size as your patriots. should be 2.02/1.57. then pull your heads and have a new valve job done at RPM in town. they are pretty familiar with LS1 heads and can do a very nice multi angle intake job and real nice raduis job on the exhaust. they have done two sets for me already. i did the same thing with the PP heads i bought. i replaced all the valves with fierras and had the heads deshrouded to a 4.04 bore for a bit more flow.

Got this off this post that Patriot themselves replied to.

Chiming in here. I went through 3 sets of Patriot heads "due to quality control issues" and I also went through 1 motor. Great product...NOT.

Do not buy them unless you want to wind up like the thread starter & countless others.

Sorry to hear that though man, believe me, I feel your pain.

Terry

do you believe there is any issue at all with the CNC cores, or is it the parts and assembly work after that?

Terry,

You supervised the build of my heads last spring. Is there anyway I can find out (short of removing the heads) what kind of valves were used??

i am not terry but if there the better upgraded fierras then you can just remove one spring like if your going to do a spring swap and they will say fierra right on the top of the stem. it is hard to see but it is there. the patriots have this little symble that i could not make out. like a little G.

Steve,

Who did you buy the valves from?? How much?? How much did the shop here in town charge you to do the valve job?? Do you think the seats should be replaced also??? PM me if you like or i can call you this evening after we both get off work.
Thanks for the input Steve i was wondering what you did with your heads you bought.
Thanks
Kyle

i bought the valves at MTI (great service by the way). they will sell them to you stock or with there special job on them. RPM charged me $150 to regrind the seats and deshroud to a 4.040 bore. im not sure if i will have time to install them like i wanted to though, since im moving and all.

Default Valves Crazy People

Valves, Hmmm let me think, Why is it when people get something cheap, they dont know why they get it cheap. Why do you think PP came up so big so fast ? Not hard to undercut everyone else's prices when you get parts from 3rd world countires. PP valves come from Turkey. There are really only four real manufacters of valves in the united states. although no ones valves are made in the U.S anymore, there are 2 manufactuers in argentina, 1 in canada, and 1 in Taiwan. All that have been making valves for 20 to 30+ years each. So if you want to buy valves, ask where they come from. 1 of the four atleast, turkey, india, china, are all making stuff so cheap, why because of quialty, you pay 15.00 for a valve that cost them 2.00. just cause its pretty dont mean its good..........My 2 Cents
