I have off the shelf Rapid Stage 2 LS1 heads and 10.5:1 compression making 480rwhp on my 383. LS6 heads and 11:1 will put you well over 500rwhp on a 383.
Its not that hard to do with the right combo. And I did it with stock wheels, steel driveshaft, belt on and air cleaner in.

you may also want to consider getting some 1 7/8 headers instead of the 1 3/4. it will help out with the bigger cubes

For you guys with the 383's did you build them up yourselves or did you buy from one of the sponsors? Im curious to how much that would run money wise to put a 383 in. THanks

I have the stock water pump...not an electric.
that 480rwhp was with sheetz 92 octane and 250 miles on the motor too.

i put mine together but i would buy from MTI, APE, More or one of the other great sponsers.
Mine is all Forged Callies with diamond pistons.
Short blocks assembled are $6k and then you need all the bolt ons plus heads/cam.
I have no regrets and drive mine every day its nice.

Eagle sells their rotating assemblies for around $2200, find you a block and have it prepped at a local top grade machine shop. You could probably get it done all together for $4500 for the short block.

Give us a call, we have a proven 500rwhp package with our 408!! This is totally streetable too. Do a search on here for Mike K and you will see that he has been very happy with his set up. This package with a little bit bigger cam could easily hit the 550 rwhp mark. Let us know if we can be of any help to you.

Thanks
