Quick list of things you need to do to pull it out the top
Drain fluids, remove air box, radiator
Drop kmember down, this will make things easier, let it hang from the suspension
Start stripping belt accessories off the motor
Remove intake manifold from motor (Be careful not to break the oil press sending unit, it is on the back of the valley cover area and there is a wire that goes to the intake manifold - this is very easy to break)
Remove your headers, or just unbolt them so you can get to the bottom row head bolts
Remove your valvecovers, rocker arms, pushrods (Careful not to loose the bearings on the end of your springs that the rocker tip goes on)
Remove your heads
Remove the bolts that go through the motor mounts (1 on each side) let motor sit in the brackets
Remove the top 2 tranny bolts (From the top seemed easier for me)
Remove the rest of the tranny bolts leaving the tranny supported by something
Remove hood braces and prop hood up in the air
Hook engine hoist up to motor, start lifting it until you can swing it forward in the bay, then lift it straight out.
You may be able to do all of this but leave the heads on - I have not tried because the heads were coming off anyway in my case, and this by all means is not a complete list, there is more stuff you have to remove like disconnecting sensors, fuel lines, ground straps, EGR / AIR stuff, PCV stuff, etc.
