I wanted to know if anyone has updated a 99,00,01 motor to the 2002 ring set?I HEARD there better at controlling oil problems and sealing abilities too?
I also needed some info on the 02 COATED pistons as well,Are they worth the upgrade over the 00 stockers even if your 00's look perfect?

I'd say it comes down to cost. Doesn't the later LS6 have a few more revs? That's not due to the pistons alone but other mods as well. The later stuff will be slightly better but it will cost you.

I'll let you know something in the next few weeks. My Vette is going in for the coated pistons and new rings next week. It has way too much piston slap, all the time. I was a little scared to put the blower on that engine and then have it come apart. We'll see how it turns out soon.

GM makes a file fit thats better than the 02 OEM.
Guess which one I have on order
I decided to use my old pistons.
Just need to ball hone the block and number my old rod/main bearings when I put it back together..

Brian I've said it many times, once its apart its not stock and in my case its NOT STOCK.
IMO a clean round true bore and a file fit are worth alittle hp,How much I dont know?I'm not balancing the setup though.I will add ARP rod bolts/head bolts too.
See buddy I stick to my own words
Now I do have one other option but thats not getting talked about unless its a done deal.

But just like you are considering...I hand honed the cylinders just to break the glaze...no honing with a torque plate or anything like that
filefits...not so sure...the endgaps are similar to stock specs...if anything my stock rings were looser than my new ones...less friction = more power right...so I Must be losing power with new rings
-Brian "still stock pistons, crank and rods"

I have seen posts on the GM upgraded ring system to correct oil problems and the result was a motor that made about 10 less hp due to the additional drag and ring configeration but they loosened up after 7or8k and the original oil problems returned,it seems a short term fix.
