Default Oil pressure issues.......help

A buddy of mine that I open road race with contacted me today and said the oil pressure is acting funny in his 02 C5. car has almost 30K on the clock.

Cold start: 34lbs
Running @ 100 degrees engine temp: 25lbs
2K rpm 22-23lbs
heavy throttle it drops about 1lb.

The low oil pressure light also comes on on cold starts and while running and if he nails it.

This car also has a Doug Rippie engine oil cooler with steel braided lines. He said he might have been concerned with one of the line collapsing. I personally dont think this is the problem. to me everything is pointing to the oil pump itself.

And yes, the oil level is fine.

Any input would be appreciated.

It may have gotten some trash in the pressure bypass spring valve on that pump, which is keeping it slightly open. I had that happen before.

good possibility. but unless there is something else coming apart I dont know if that could be it. This guy is pretty religious about oil changes.
