Anyone with SLP "ZL- stroker" check in
well the SLP badging said 427, not that could be their new badging like 421 on their 421 Bobcat GTO, but never got to see if it was a 7.0 liter or not. I'm thinking maybe it was advertising horsepower, cause the 427 motor should run faster than that
The Dyno as I have been told, is now being utilized primarily for R&D.
I haven't run across anybody locally who had the rebuild, but try posting the question over on the FAOA (Firehawk Assn of America). You may get a couple of responses, but no promises.

And that is the way it happened, period.
I've had SLP products before and they've always been well made parts. That said there are parts from other companies that make more power, i.e. Headers, head/cam packages, etc.
They claimed 575hp, 500 at the wheels, but the car went a best of 12.16 at about 117. There were stock Z06s there doing .3 less than that. I will say on there part that there driver was not impressing me at all. I was trapping about 122 and I dont have any where near as much power as they were runing. Considering there weight, they should have been alteast 125 if they had the power the were claiming. But who knows??? There's a list of reasons why the car may have been slow that day.
The motor still sounds like a good deal but I would go through it before I installed it.
At raceday, the SLP GTO was raced on 16 drag radials - which simply 'blew-off' when the car was launched (no traction = no good times). The clutch was a stock ZO6 unit, which lasted exactly 2.5 runs. Besides slipping between any WOT shifts, it completely lost clamp on the 3rd pass 1-2 shift. A 4000 lbs vehicle (GTO is heavy to start, then add 100 lb iron block = 4000lbs) with 550ft-lbs of torque is simply way too much for the GM clutch.
Anyway, went to E-town yesterday after installing an Exedy twin disk clutch -(which works beautifully) first pass was 11.87 @ 122.5, with easy launch to confirm traction (2.01 60ft). 2nd pass was on target for something better with a 1.9 60 ft, then the CV joint blew up on the 1-2 shift.
The engine is legit, but the car is a heavy pig with a limited capability IRS (as we found yesterday) - if we put it in an f-body or something with a reasonable weight and decent rear axle, it would run 10s all day.

The slp folk were also really helpful when my clutch locked up at the line at last year's slp day. They even offered to put it up on a lift there and look at it -- I appreciated that.
However, I read the post in the dyno section about the guy with the smoking slp 402 -- I would be very worried about that, and unless they take care of that guy I would not want to be the next guy with a smoking motor -- been there, done that myself (not with slp).
Correct, we've been talking to Mike at Rapid, because that is where the car is. However, I called you this morning, to touch base
- I will call Mike again this morning, I know they are busy there too. So far, testing has shown all encouraging results (leak down, plugs, etc). We'll get to the bottom of this - just need to go through things step-by-step, looking for what is wrong.
I'm hoping to do the 402 as well but would like to see how max's dad's car turns out first. So far so good on the SLP parts though.
Gentlemen,
Rest assured, it WILL be properly resolved and SLP will stand behind the product - these things take some time and we want to handle things properly...plus, we are all long-distance to each other. However, I have been in contact with the installer and working on reaching the customer. I can assure you, the smoke issue on this engine will be addressed properly and fairly.
On a separate note, we have over 20 of these out there - so I expect we'll see more responses in due time.
Best regards
