Default Porting LS1 heads.

I have ported heads in the past and was wondering if the LS1 heads respond as well as 23deg heads to the standard, pocket port, bowl blend, valve job/back cut, and removing the casting flash from the runners. I don't want to spend $1,500 on heads when I can do these things at home. I have low goals of a little over 400rwhp with a cam with no more than 224 @ .050 duration and .600 lift. Is it worth my time to do the work my self? Any help would be appreciated before I get started. Thanks.

I've messed around with stock Mustang heads...i.e. JUNK, and decided to see what I could do with a set of 241's. I looked at a set that a competent head porter did and followed his areas, but didn't take as much material out. I just got them back the other day. These are stock valves, SF600, 28", 4" bore.

.200 138 104
.300 188 140
.400 234 167
.500 238 183
.600 246 192

I was worried about hurting my low lift numbers, but was suprised to see they picked up just a tad and really took off from .400-.600 vs a stock head. I wouldn't mind getting another set a taking a tad more material out and see how they do.

If you have ported heads in the past, then you have more experience than me, so you should be able to do better than I did. Post up some numbers when you are done.
