Good Blower Cam ??
A friend of mine is in the process of installing a D1SC on his LS1 and would like to throw a cam in as well.
What is a good blower cam to toss in ??
His mods include your simple bolt-ons, headers, and a little exhaust work.
He has stock heads, and might choose to port them later on, down the road.
Can anyone help me out here ??
Thanks in advance.

Re: Good Blower Cam ??
I'm about to have a D-1SC installed w/a new cam..
I picked a
214/218 .540/.550 114lsa 112icl
Anything over 220 in duration is too much valveoverlap, you can do it, but it won't work as well...

Re: Good Blower Cam ??
Optimal cam design depends a lot on the type of blower. Turbos and centrifugal blowers (such as a Vortech) don't have much low-end torque, at least until the boost spools up. They like less total duration, w/ more lift on the intake side. Roots-type blowers have plenty of low-end grunt, but need help on the exhaust side to scavenge the cylinder. They like split-duration cams (longer on the exhaust side), & can handle more duration & overlap.
Both types of blowers like wider LSA's, around 114.

Re: Good Blower Cam ??
That would work too, I was originally looking to get a big blower cam...like a 227/230 big lift, 114lsa, but too much duration..
I was originally told to go with a 212/218 .535/.545 114lsa

Re: Good Blower Cam ??
Nice answers guys, and thanks for the help.
I think he was originally going to put a MMS229 cam in, just cause he is located in Cali.
Is that cam going to be "way" too much ??
Its a 6 speed car as well.

Re: Good Blower Cam ??
yea that is way too much for a blower setup, you will lose power as compared to if you went with a cam that I listed...
I was going to do a big cam for a S/C and was advised agaisnt anything over 220 duration...

So you guys are basically saying to go with a split duration, a lift somewhere around 535-560 favoring the intake side, and a LSA of 114-
Is this correct ??
Also.. what if the LSA is a 112 ??
He's worried that with the blower you wont be able to hear the "choppy-ness" (is that a word??) of the cam.

Re: Good Blower Cam ??
Well you need to make sacrifices for power...if he wants choppiness hes going to have to go with more of an aggressive cam w/an 112lsa...but the problem with 112lsa is that it bleeds off cylinder pressure, therefore not getting optimal boost...
My cam that I'm going to have installed is a
214/218 .540/.550 114lsa 112icl, you will probably barely be able to hear it lope, and it will probably sound stock with my dual-dual..
I am currently running an X1 cam 230/227 .591/.571 112lsa, this cam is very choppy and lopes hard, good for all motor, but that would be horrible for F.I.
