With a flush machine that is designed to flush entire system. The good ones can exchange 95% of the coolant from the entire cooling system.

So technically you cant do a flush at your own home? I dont have the machine to do it, but how does draining it, running water through it, and filling it up with dexcool compare to a machine? Will it be ok to do that if I dont have a machine? Thanks alot.

Make sure you also flush out the reservoir too.
By the time your done, there will be [NO] coolant left in the entire system, to include the block.
Next, unhook one of radiator hoses attaching to the water pump. About another quart of water will come out.
Tighten everything back up and add 1 3/4 gal of DexCool to the radiator (that gives a 50/50 mix).
Fill the rest of the way with water.
Run engine.. Let cool.. Add water.. Run again .. and so on and so on till there is no air left in the system
Don't forget to fill the reservoir too.
Weeeooo... that was alot <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I've heard about this cooling system cleaner which is supposedly pretty good, I think it's called RMI 25? Not sure where to get it though. Google might turn something up.
