Default 408 or 427?

I'm asking for some input, I would like to have a stroker built for next year. The 427 I was looking at would be 6.0 iron block, Callies crank, Lunati pro-I rods, diamond pistons. The 408 I was looking at would be the Eagle crank and rods, and diamond pistons. I have stage 2 LS1 heads now, they flowed 285 at .600". I think I can get more out of my heads. Thinking of sending them to MTI or any other suggestions to have them gone through. Also any cam suggestions? Looking for shops that people have had good luck with.

Thanks

umm most people told me not to go with a 427 with the iron because of 1) the big stroke 2) you really have to punch out to block to get a 4.06 bore

I agree I have a 2 year plan(car paid off, less than 30K on it) Will have around 15K to spend on motor with everything else set to go susp/12 bolt/clutch/etc. I am old school (44 ) but the 427 has a great ring/history to it

1) the added stroke will cause oil consumption issues especially on an iron block
2) the 4.06 bore leaves the walls too thin on most iron blocks leading to a weaker block

If it's a n/a motor, he could do 4.06 or maybe 4.08, but he hasn't told us where he's headed with this car; n/a, blown, nos, . . . I don't like the idea of a LQ4 427 stroker.

My car is 90% street driven, I'd like to add a 150 shot of nitrous. I spoke with MTI yesterday and they said an iron 408 with Lunati crank and rods and wiseco pistons would be $5595.00 for the short block. I know that afr's or ls6 heads would be better but for now they said they would upgrade my heads to stage III's for around $800.00 and flow around 320-325 on intake. I thought about running there S1 cam (244/244-.612/.612 at 112 lsa) and then put a fast intake on with 90mm tb or TPIS modified ls6 intake with oval. I would think this should make pretty good power. Any thoughts or inputs? Thanks

u can get a callies setup for under 5000 if you dont like Eagle

I got mine through LME (vendor) and their turn around time kicked everyone else's ***.

If the heads are good, you should make around 520rwhp with the FAST 90mm setup.

I agree - I always thought that the 'rule of thumb' was to resleeve for a 427.

408's seem much cheaper to build.

Check HPE (sponsor>>>>) they got a 408 for $3900. They are top notch in their machine shop. SAM instructor.
