Default heads/cam 400+rwhp???

ok, so i need a little help in deciding on the heads/cam package of choice.....im sure many of you one here have been through the same thing im going through now....

what i WILL have is a good set of stage 1-2heads(somewhere in between, sorta like a TEA stage 2head), and then i will be replacing valvetrain w/ comp 918 springs, titanium retainers, TR heat treated pushrods, and stainless steel valves...i also was thinking about replacing the rod bolts w/ ARP rod bolts while im wrenching.....

now the cam choice...obviously im going to have tuning.....but i am split between the TR 224 and the F1 cam.....i want a good 400rwhp and i want to be able to hop in the car here in TN and drive to Florida if i wanted to w/o worrying about anything, and be able to sit in traffic all i want also....so.....as you can see im in a bit of a prediciment(spelling?)...also i dont wanna spin the moptor past 6500....so id assume it would be ok to change the icl on the cam a degree or two when i install it...right? here again i am no where near as experienced as you guys are at this, so if i say something crazy just tell me!

which should i go with?
does the valvetrain seem good enough? overkill?
can the F1 be a daily driver cam?
how long will that valvetrain hold up REALISTICALLY?

thanks
Tim

If you want to use the F1, I'd change your spring choice to like Rev duals or comp duals to be safe. You can use the F1 on a daily driver but it will have a rougher idle than the 224. If tuned properly, it will be fine in traffic and on the highway etc. If you race and drive the car a lot, I'd definately change springs once a year or about every 15,000 miles to be safe.

It will definately make more power than the 224. The F1 will peak probably around 6000, so shifting at 6500 would probably be ok. You might be able to get a little more out of it shifting at like 6600-6700 though.

Well,

Just to give you an idea, I run MTI's X1 cam which is ever so slightly larger than the F1. It's a great cam, but I don't mind the shaking and a rough idle. It drives around just fine, no problems really except for some slight surging at lower RPM's. I love it and it pulls hard.

The TR224 is good, but it's a little weak for me. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Tim - just as I said in the PMs. The F1 is perfectly suitable to daily driver. Hell right now I have it in my car with no tuning other than raising the rev limiter and idle - which is around 875 I believe. I'm was waiting on my headers to come in before I tuned - then they just haven't shown up and I never got around to tuning it yet. It idles perfectly fine even though I've also been fighting some TB issues.

In all reality - the F1 isn't really all that big anymore. About 2 weeks after I bought mine, all the bigger cams came out (G5X2...etc.) Comp has some nice lobes - you can just pick em out and get a custom grind to whatever you like.

What I would suggest though is since you are getting your heads ported first - get them ported then gett he flow sheets and call up any one of the sponsors. They'll hook you up with a cam that meets your heads and then you can make some big power!!

Also - try shooting LOnSLO a PM. He had the TR224 and now has the F1 - track and dyno numbers for both.
